Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This policy explains what personal data is processed when you visit avizitbiswas.com and how you can exercise your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Controller

Avizit Biswas, Cologne, Germany. Email: contact@avizitbiswas.com. The postal address is given in the Impressum.

2. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Hostinger, which processes data on my behalf under a data processing agreement. When you open a page, the server automatically records technical information that your browser sends: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring URL, and browser and operating-system details. This is necessary to deliver the website securely and to detect misuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log files are deleted by the host after a limited period unless they are needed to investigate a security incident.

3. Contacting me

If you email me or use the contact form, I process the details you provide (such as your name, email address and message) to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your enquiry relates to a contract or job application, and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR otherwise. I delete enquiries when they have been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

4. Cookies and local storage

The website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers it; this value contains no personal data and is never sent to the server. WordPress may set technically necessary cookies when you log in.

5. Fonts

Fonts are served from this website’s own server. No connection to Google Fonts or other font services is made.

6. Embedded ArcGIS dashboard

The research projects page offers an interactive dashboard hosted on ArcGIS Online, a service of Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc., Redlands, USA). The dashboard is not loaded automatically. Only when you click “Load the dashboard here” does your browser connect to Esri’s servers, which then receive technical data such as your IP address, browser information and the page you came from. Esri may use cookies and may process this data in the USA. The legal basis is your consent given by the click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); it applies only to that page view. Alternatively, you can open the dashboard directly on arcgis.com via the link below it. Details: Esri privacy statement.

7. Links to other websites

Links to LinkedIn, Upwork, Fiverr, ArcGIS Online, publishers (via doi.org) and other sites are ordinary links. Data is only transferred to those services when you click a link, and their own privacy policies then apply.

8. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR). Contact me by email to exercise these rights. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — for example, the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).

9. Changes

I will update this policy if the website’s features or the legal requirements change.
